Dear Fellow Floridians
The Day at the Races are in
the history books, for 2009. This year was the best yet, 176
Tickets were sold. All members deserve a pat on the back for the
outstanding job they did in making this a successful event. Some
of you won some money, that always makes it nice. I would like
to give Shirley Powell a big thank you for selling a total of 31
tickets. I would like to invite her to one of our meetings to
express our gratitude for her excellent salesmanship of selling
as many tickets as she did. It is my hope that next year we will
be able to do two hundred.
I am proud that
we were well represented at the Twenty Fourth National
Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana. There was a total of 7 of
our 9 members present, which is a good count by any ones math.
We also
were the recipient of some very nice awards, Sidney received the
"Humanitarian" award for his work with the local
community by providing computers and support to those in need.
Marlene and Sabrina received awards as well, Sabrina was awarded
the "busy Bee" Award for her outstanding work in
decorating the hall for the dinner/dance. The tables and flowers
were absolutely beautiful. Marlene was the recipient of the
"Shining Star" Thank you for what you do award, for
which she surely deserved for all of her organizational skills
in helping to insure that things went according to plan.
We are happy to
report that Charlotte Coleman's Granddaughter and Grandson was
awarded scholarships for 2009. Congratulations to charlotte and
her Grandchildren, Christopher, and Cherie Jackson.
It is
with sadness that we have to report the loss of one of the
pillars of the community, Mother Mary Ann Wright passed away in
May of 2009. Mother Wright was an inspiration not only to the
entire Bay Area, but to a large part of the world. She left a
golden legacy to the world, a legacy that is filled with love
for her fellowman. It was a joy to work in support of her
Foundation, and it is our intention to continue that support
with those who have continued her work.
The 2009
National Association of Floridian Clubs National Conference Held
in Indianapolis, Indiana July 30-August 2, 2009, was a huge
success. It was a well prepared set of events that was enjoyed
by all. The wonderful affair at Roy Dixon's Home was an affair
to remember. It seems that Roy went fishing and caught the fish
that was consumed with tasty glee by those in attendance. Roy
took things to another level when he arranged the bus tour of
Indianapolis. It was truly a magnificent tour, the Indianapolis
Speedway, Purdue university, The world War II Memorial, the
Robert F Kennedy/ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. field where Kennedy
announced that Dr. King had been assassinated.
Until next time, I wish you
all love and happiness.
